Dakota & Paul

Dakota Stone and Paul Alberts were married over the weekend in what was possibly the largest and most spectacular gay wedding in Vancouver history. The two lucky Northern B.C. boys won 102.7 The Peak’s “My Big Fat Gay Wedding” contest, the first-ever live broadcast gay wedding on Canadian radio. “In all my years as a broadcaster, this has been one of the most memorable things I’ve been a part of. We’re so glad to have been able to play a part in Paul and Dakota’s love story. We had messages of love sent from people listening all around the world. It was an incredible day,” said Kevin Lim, co-host of Mornings with Kevin and Sonia on The Peak. Stone and Alberts are each other’s first loves and wanted to use the opportunity as a platform to encourage gay youth to come out and be who you are. “We feel ecstatic. We have no words. Thanks to the public for voting for us. For anyone that’s struggling out there coming out and you’re hiding in there within yourself, just come out. Don’t overthink stuff. Just do it and be happy,” said Alberts. Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson officiated the ceremony outside Science World and included performances by Vance Joy, who were in town on a tour with Taylor Swift. The pair were married on August 1 and debuted as husbands in the Pride Parade the next day.
